From the novel, Hannibal’s Elephant Girl, Book Three, Chapter Five
“This is also for you,” Carmen said.
“Caballo balanceo!” Imilce cried. (Rocking horse)

She ran to get one of her small dolls.

“Just right for my Senorita Angelina.”

“Yes, it is.” Carmen glanced at the smiling women.

“What is his name, please?” Imilce asked.

“It is a girl horse,” Carmen said. “Chica loca.” (Crazy Girl).

The adult women, seeing that the children would get along together, left the two girls in the princess’s quarters.

After the women left Imilce’s rooms, Carmen turned dark and spiteful.

“I am not going to spend the rest of my life serving a child.”
